If you would usually multiply the rate by the original in order to find the amount of tax, you can write an equation to solve for the amount of tax itself (represented by x).   34,000x = 6,200 34,000      34,000 x=.183 Multiply by 100 to get convert to a percent. x=18.3%

0.18 *100% = 18%
